Using Social Media To Promote Live, Physical Events

Hosting a LIVE, Physical event in this day can be difficult to fill if you are not using all resources possible to promote. Even event promoters with large lists are finding it difficult to fill their events because there is so much information available online at people’s fingertips. I have put together 3 simple tips to help you fill your events.

Be Creative

When crafting your event title, you want to be fun, creative and have something that is eye-catching to your prospect. You want to make sure that you have given a good description of what the event is going to be about and what they can expect to get out of the event. Also use images to help describe the event.

Be Everywhere

When promoting the event, you want to make sure you have it up everywhere! Leverage the online sites as much as possible and you want to make sure you have shared the information through your social media channels. I find it is best to create a page about the event on your website/blog and share it from there.

Some online websites you want to consider to market your website:

  • Eventbrite.com (paid if ticket sales)
  • Upcoming.org
  • Meetup.com (paid)
  • Eventful.com
  • Yelp.com

You also want to share the event information on the following social media sites:

  • Facebook (Events and through Engaging Posts)
  • LinkedIn (Post updates and Posting in Groups)
  • Twitter (send multiple tweets regarding event and use #hashtags)
  • Google+ (Post updates and share with your circles)
  • Pinterest (Pin your images on your event page)
  • YouTube (Create video teasers about the event or share clips from past events)

Be Simple

When you make the registration process simple, it helps to get people to register as well J I would recommend only collecting information really necessary to get them to attend. For example, we run local monthly social media training meetings here in Metro Detroit and we collect Name, Email, Phone and Mailing address. We don’t ask them about their social media presence or what their occupation is because when you ask for too much information it can deter people. Now the caveat here would be, if you only want a specific type of individual to attend, then it make sense to do this.

Bonus Tip: First Impressions

At your registration table when people first come in, make sure and have someone who is friendly, smiles and can build instant rapport with people. This is will help in creating that first, great impression.
